Transmit data using light pulses through glass or plastic fibres. They are ideal for high-bandwidth, long-distance communication and are immune to EMI. These are of two types: Single-Mode(SM) and Multi-Mode (MM). Single-Mode is used for long-distance transmission (up to 100 km or more) and has a small core (8–10 microns), allowing one light signal for minimal loss. Multi-Mode suitable for short-distance runs (up to 2 km)
